BBC Two will air a new documentary, 'Amy Winehouse: 10 Years On,' to mark a decade since Amy Winehouse’s death. The documentary, commissioned by BBC Two and BBC Music, will be told primarily from the perspective of Winehouse’s mother, Janis.

“I don’t feel the world knew the true Amy, the one that I brought up, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy,” Janis said in a release, which noted that Janis’ viewpoint of Winehouse “often differs from the narrative we have been told before.”

Even if you’ve heard them a million times or come across them in a dozen movie soundtracks, Motown classics like “My Girl,” “Come See About Me,” or “The Tracks of My Tears” still sound almost impossibly fresh, just as the radical spirit of “What’s Going On” or “Living for the City” resonates perfectly in our present political moment. And amid all the hits, there are still lesser-known gems to be discovered.

BTS denounced widespread anti-Asian racism following a surge of violence in the U.S. “We stand against racial discrimination,” the South Korean pop group tweeted Monday night, using the hashtags #StopAsianHate and #StopAAPIHate. “We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.”

In mid-March, six Asian women were among those killed during shootings in three Atlanta-area massage parlors. In other recent incidents, an 84-year-old man died two days after being shoved to the ground in San Francisco; a 91-year-old man was violently attacked in Oakland’s Chinatown; and in New York City, a 61-year-old man was slashed in the face with a box cutter on the subway.

“We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We feel grief and anger,” BTS wrote. “We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English.”

The group called their own encounters “inconsequential” compared to the events of recent weeks. But, they added, “these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem. … What is happening right now cannot be dissociated from our identity as Asians.”

During a White House covid-19 briefing on Monday, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave powerful testimony about the current increase in cases, warning Americans, “When we see that uptick in cases, what we have seen before is that things really have a tendency to surge, and surge big.”

After speaking about the U.S. surpassing 30 million total coronavirus cases, Dr. Rochelle Walensky expressed a “recurring feeling I have of impending doom,” adding, “Right now, I’m scared.”

According to the director, the seven-day average of new cases has risen by 10 percent while hospitalization rates have also increased. “And deaths, which typically lag behind cases and hospitalizations, have now started to rise,” Walensky said.

The director’s aim was clear, encourage Americans to be diligent with virus safety protocols even in an optimistic atmosphere that the vaccines have brought.

Elton John turns today, and he’s marking the occasion by sharing six rare songs from his 2020 box set 'Elton: Jewel Box' on streaming services for the first time. One of them is 1967’s “Scarecrow,” the first song he wrote with Bernie Taupin.

“Scarecrow’ will always have a very special place in my heart, and I know that Bernie feels the same way too,” John said in a statement. “It’s the song that started it all. This last year in lockdown has given us all time to look back and reflect — finding this song again when I put together the Jewel Box and thinking of everything that has happened in our careers and friendships that has sprouted from this one point is just remarkable.”
