Thank you for the party, but Sly could never stay. Sly Stone was always the ultimate mystery man of American music, a visionary genius who transformed the world with some of the most innovative sounds of the Sixties and Seventies. When he died on Monday, it seemed strange he was “only” 82, because he seemed even older — as if he’d outlived himself by decades. Yet his music sounds as boldly futuristic and influential as ever, which is why the world is still reeling from this loss. Read @robbiesheff's tribute at the link in our bio.
@mskathleenhanna is no stranger to social justice movements. Right now, she’s focused on the expanding political crisis, including raids and mass arrests of migrants by ICE, which have sparked protests nationwide, with Los Angeles an epicenter of the uprising, targeted by the Trump administration for a brutal crackdown. Hanna has been demonstrating in Pasadena, with the aim of disrupting ICE activities, and raising money for @CHIRLA_org. At the link in our bio, Hanna caught up with Rolling Stone to share how she uses her voice to effect change — and how everyone has something to contribute to the cause.
"Trump took power in a nation that, despite its dark mood, was doing well on many fronts. But he has moved quickly to fix that." Read @paulkrugman7 at the link in bio. Illustration @juhaszillustration
In his new Rolling Stone Interview, @ericchurchmusic talks about one thing he'd fix about the country music genre if he could: "I would love to have the quality of artists that are willing — and are allowed — to take some chances creatively. You get a lot more of that in the Americana world. I think that’s why you have Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers and Sturgill [Simpson]; these guys were able to do things artistically because they can, and you see the demand for it."
