In our new cover story, Rolling Stone goes in-depth on all things @gratefuldead and how Bob Weir kept the flame of the band alive for all of these years. Drummer Mickey Hart spoke about Bobby's partnership with Jerry Garcia: "His partner was gone — the sound that was always there when he played was gone. They both had stage fright, and they knew that being with each other canceled most of that out. They hung out together in the same onstage tent and yakked or played something during the break and before the concert. They felt comfortable in each other’s presence." Rolling Stone reports the story of Kota Youngblood — when the feds detained him at an Austin airport, the arrest ended a decades-old con that had drained roughly $12 million from more than 30 victims. While the sums were astonishing, the methods he used were plain sinister. His con was one unlike FBI agents had seen before. It was a confidence game built on proximity — on family dinners, on the slow, yearslong conversion of friendship into obedience. "I’ve never seen cruelty like this in a fraud," a federal prosecutor tells Rolling Stone. Hit the link in bio to read more. 📷 @marksmithillustration for Rolling Stone
