Legendary photographer Mick Rock, who captured iconic images of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Queen, and more, died at age 72 this week. Between 1972 and 1979, his portraits graced famous album covers and his videography flavored some of the first music videos of the time. His art is immortalized on the covers of Queen II, Raw Power, and Transformer; in 1972, one of his photographs of Bowie featured on the cover of Rolling Stone‘s Nov. 9 issue. Speaking of his work with Bowie and Reed in a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, he said: "They made an important contribution to the development of my own sensibility... When I was in the hospital for my heart bypass surgery, the first flowers that were there waiting for me were from Lou and David. Not only were they my true friends, they were also my true heroes." Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges on Friday, with the jury in the high-profile trial determining the teenager was acting in self-defense during a pair of deadly encounters last summer in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse, 18, had been charged with five counts including reckless homicide, intentional homicide, and attempted intentional homicide. He was found not guilty of all five of them. The charges stemmed from when as a 17-year-old in August 2020, Rittenhouse brought an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle to a protest in Kenosha, where he shot and killed two men, Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and wounded another, Gaige Grosskreutz. The 12-person jury deliberated for over three days before announcing their decision Friday afternoon. Rittenhouse broke down in tears as the jury recited the “not guilty” verdicts. With the release of new single "Off," Maxwell discusses the end of his 'BLACKsummers'night' trilogy, the end of his major-label contract, and a future where he'll finally own his masters. “There’s so much happening,” Maxwell says. “The end of the trilogy; the opening of a new chapter. When I started out I didn’t know the power dynamics, the ins and outs of the record industry. I was just happy to be on the rise. Later I would hear from Prince, like, ‘You should own your masters and understand the business.’ I was signed back in 1994. Things are different now, and gatekeepers have changed.” Tap the link in our bio to read more. Photo: Cliff Watts

To celebrate, we launched Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums, an Amazon Original podcast that delved into the making and the meaning of 10 albums from the list, from Taylor Swift's Red to Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. Now we're back with Season Two: Across 10 new episodes, you’ll hear Dolly Parton tell the stories behind the songs on her 1971 solo breakthrough Coat of Many Colors; Britney Spears’ collaborators explain how she made 2007’s Blackout in the eye of a paparazzi hurricane; Rivers Cuomo and his Weezer bandmates look back on their iconic Blue Album; and much more.
