When the pandemic hit in 2020, the world — and @daddyyankee — slowed down. He had been going for almost 30 years straight by then, and he had become intimately familiar with the grind of the industry. Though he’d always spent a lot of time in Puerto Rico, he wanted to spend even more time with his family. He felt that he was in a place where he could walk away and be proud of the work he’d done. "I was like, 'It’s my turn to live instead of working, working, and working,'" he says. "When I got into that reflective state, I said, 'I need to live, too. I need an opportunity to actually enjoy everything I’ve achieved. I’m healthy, I’m good, I’m young.'"
