“Silence becomes cowardice when the occasion demands speaking out the whole truth and acting accordingly.” -Mahatma Gandhi

The colossuses of Bollywood are hiding behind the cover of ignorance and political correctness. The icon of Indian film industry, Amitabh Bachchan, came up with the most stupid answer when he was asked about Tanushree Dutta’s allegation of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar.

The man, who is the brand ambassador of the government of India’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, said: “My name is neither Tanushree nor Nana Patekar, how

can I answer your question.” Mr Bachchan, who is daily seen on our television screens talking about women empowerment, showed his millions of fans that when it comes to taking a morally correct stand, he lacks the spine.

The Being Human Salman Khan, who despite pumping iron for hours in gym has done nothing to make his spine strong,   took the easiest escape route – ignorance.

The superstar conveniently dodged the issue saying: “I am not aware of this. Let me know and understand what is happening.”

Aamir Khan, the Mr Perfectionist and paragon of political correctness, sounded like a professional politician.

Aamir said it would be unfair on his part to comment on the controversy without knowing the “veracity” or the “details” of the matter.

“I don’t think I can comment on it… But whenever something like this does happen it is really a sad thing. Now whether such thing has happened it is for people to investigate it,” he said. The man, weathered violent protests against his comments rehabilitation of the people affected by the Narmada project, opted for politics of convenience. The other Bollywood stars who are active on social media have gone into silent mode.

Richa Chaddha of Fukrey fame rightly said that she does not see this happening in Bollywood because of the culture of victim-shaming in the country.

But she added that when it happens, as it is happening in Hollywood right now, the entire power structure will change. People, who you see making feminist films and claiming to be progressive etc, they will all come tumbling down. “We will lose a lot of heroes and several people will lose their lives’ work”

Richa had predicted that this will not happen immediately but will take four-five years. But Tanushree has proved her wrong and exposed Bollywood’s most socially committed and respectable face.

It took a lot of courage on the part of Hollywood actress Ashley Judd to taken on Harvey Weinstein. But one courageous step opened floodgates as more and more Hollywood A-listers came out against him. Will Tanushree prove to be Bollywood’s Ashley Judd? Only time can answer this question.
