In 1976, a little Indian girl was invited by Bollywood legend Kishore Kumar to sing with him during a concert in Durban, South Africa. And thus, Shashika, the singer, was born. Today, Shashika is known all over the world for Hindustani music – songs, ghazals, bhajans.
She has worked with prominent artistes in India such as Anup Jalota, Sonu Nigam and Adnan Sami. She has completed Sangit Visharad l in Hindustani Vocal under her guru Pandit Sudhindra Bhowmick and sitar under Smt. Stuti Dey from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, affiliated to University of Lucknow.
In 2003, she launched her independent music label URJA MUSIC. Her interest as a music producer, songwriter and recording artiste increased hence she spent less time as a stage performing artiste and produced more than 15 successful albums and singles that enjoy popularity worldwide.
In 2015, her productions saw her single Manzil Tu Hi achieve no. 29 on iTunes SA Top 100 in World Music. The ultimate was her production of World Music album Krishna, The Flute Player. The album received rave reviews in USA and appeared at no. 14 on the US Billboard Chart in September 2016.
Blessed with the natural ability that involves communicating, teaching, healing and entertaining that suits her personality and interests, Shashika also conducts workshops, music therapy sessions, voice classes and delivers motivational talks all through her unique, holistic approach.
