Manika Batra: The new glamour girl of Indian sports

Move over P.V. Sindhu, Indian sports has a new glamour girl.

Manika Batra, who made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win table tennis Gold at the recently held 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, has emerged as the new glamour girl of Indian sports because of her game, trendy kohled eyes and the tricolour painted on her nails.

What makes Manika different is that sportspersons do modelling after getting famous. But, in the case of Manika it was the other way round. She was doing a little bit of modelling during her college days but she quit modelling to concentrate on table tennis as she wanted to win medals for India.

In an interview she expressed her desire for Bollywood post-retirement. This is what she said, “I have received offers for modelling. I love dancing as well, but I want to focus on table tennis and do something good for India. However, after table tennis, I hope to become a Bollywood actor.” She was featured in ‘Top 10 Hottest Table Tennis Players in the World’, published by Sports Flu and also bagged a national daily’s ‘Style Award’.
