With an impeccable academic background of being an alumnus of Jaipur’s Saint Xavier’s School and Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College, Haider Khan arrived in Mumbai with dreams of making it big in Bollywood. After more than two decades, he has realised that dream but with a twist. He realised that his talent lies not in front of the camera but behind it. So he changed his focus (pun intended) and joined The Gladrags magazine as their official photographer and after that he has “clicked” his way to India’s top fashion photographer who is equally adept at shooting both stills and motion. Today, Haider is perhaps among the few Indian photographers who have not only top Indian clients but international also. He has done fashion shoots for Italian, French and other European magazines. However, Haider’s best shot was Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
The two quintessential Pathans have bonded together so well that Haider has become an integral part of Salman Khan productions even Being Human. Like any other talented artist, Haider too has expanded his creative horizons and now also directs music videos and short films.
Being a son of a former army commando father and a travel executive mother, travelling and wildlife have been a part of Haider’s upbringing, which is very much reflected in his work.
Haider says: “ I am a photographer with director’s mind, I see the world as a cinematic canvas” and this is very much evident in his pictures and films where he incorporates elements of day-to-day life.
Haider, who these days sport a rugged look which can give top models a run for their money, shuns publicity and rarely gives interviews. However, he is quite active on social media where he does not shy away from expressing his views on national and world affairs.
